Your Florida business insurance policy should cover you for more than just the occasional foul weather. Your business is at risk of many damages that cannot be blamed on Mother Nature. Vandalism is just one of these risks.

Friday, December 30, 2011 saw acts of destruction to four businesses in DeLand. Local police reported that a single man vandalized the downtown establishments on Woodland Boulevard. Two suffered broken windows, while the other two lost glass doors. Nothing was stolen, but the businesses were still likely to lose money due to the necessary repairs.

How can you help reduce the risk of your business being hit by senseless destruction? Make sure you have enough lighting outside your property. Do not give criminals the protection of shadows. Installing a video surveillance system may help deter vandals as well as help police to identify perpetrators. Helping to organize a watch program among local business may also help bring down the crime rate in your part of town.

With Florida business insurance, you could receive monetary compensation for the repairs related to acts of vandalism. You could also save money on your policy in the long-run by actively trying to prevent such crimes as a sustained reduction in crime in your area may in time encourage insurance providers to reduce premiums.
